Response of Neutron Monitors to Cosmic Ray Counts: a Statistical Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
Study of cosmic ray became a subject of study with the invention of neutron monitor by Simpson. But recording of cosmic ray counts was started regularly from International Geophysical Year at different locations having different climatic zones over the globe. Here statistical analysis is performed to investigate the degree of response of different monitors towards cosmic ray counts. No significant difference is observed in statistical analysis if cosmic ray counts are normalized with respect to their mean counts in respective solar cycles. Correlation between cosmic ray counts of any two stations is found ranges from 0.88 to 0.99.

Passive neutron area monitor with CR39
Background: In high-intensity, mixed and pulsed neutron fields the use of spectrometers or area monitors with active detectors is useless in these conditions neutron measuring devices must have a passive detector. Here a passive neutron area monitor with CR39 track detector was designed and the response was calculated. Materials and Methods: The response of a passive neutron area monitor with C...
متن کاملAtmospheric Yield Functions and the Response to Secondary Particles of Neutron Monitors
Angle dependent yield functions for different Neutron Monitor types are calculated using a simulation of cosmic ray air showers combined with a detection efficiency simulation for different secondary particle species. Results are shown for IGY and NM64 configurations using the standard 10BF3 detectors and the new He detectors to be used in the Spaceship Earth Project (Bieber and Evenson, 1995)....
متن کاملOn scaling cosmogenic nuclide production rates for altitude and latitude using cosmic-ray measurements
The wide use of cosmogenic nuclides for dating terrestrial landforms has prompted a renewed interest in characterizing the spatial distribution of terrestrial cosmic rays. Cosmic-ray measurements from neutron monitors, nuclear emulsions and cloud chambers have played an important role in developing new models for scaling cosmic-ray neutron intensities and, indirectly, cosmogenic production rate...
متن کاملSequential monitoring of cosmic-ray neutrons and ionizing components in Japan
A fixed-point measurement of cosmic-ray intensity has being continued at Chiba, near Tokyo in Japan to obtain the time-sequential data. High efficiency neutron rem counter and Multi-sphere neutron Spectrometer (Bonner Sphere: BS) were used for the measurement of cosmic-ray neutron components and for the evaluation of the cosmic-ray ionizing components, NaI(Tl) scintillation spectrometer was emp...
متن کاملAn assessment of the effect of horizontal soil moisture heterogeneity on the areaaverage measurement of cosmicray neutrons
[1] The cosmic-ray neutron probe measures soil moisture over tens of hectares, thus averaging spatially variable soil moisture fields. A previous paper described how variable soil moisture profiles affect the integrated cosmic-ray neutron signal from which depthaverage soil moisture is computed. Here, we investigate the effect of horizontal heterogeneity on the relationship between neutron coun...
